Waste Collection

The Village of Point Edward Council regulates the collection, removal and disposal of waste in the Village. The following information addresses the various schedules and types of garbage that are accepted for disposal.

Regular Garbage Collection

June 1 to September 30 of each year

Double garbage collection takes place on Tuesday and Friday of each week. No leaf, grass or brush collection will take place on these days. The number of bags/containers will be restricted to four per collection day.

October 1 to May 31 of each year

During this time period, one garbage collection day takes place on Tuesday of each week. No leaf, grass or brush collection will take place on these days. The number of bags/containers will be restricted to four per collection day.

Other Important Information

In the event garbage is not picked up, the bag will be tagged giving the reasons for non-collection;
A weight restriction of 50 pounds and type of bag/container must be in accordance with the By-law to address health and safety issues for employees.
All garbage must be at the curbside no later than 7 a.m.

Grass & Leaf Collection and Brush Collection

April 1 to November 30 of each year

During this time period, grass and leaf collection will take place on Wednesdays of each week.  The grass and leaves must be at the curbside no later than 7 a.m. All leaves and grass must be contained in paper bags or an open container marked with an ‘X’.

Brush collection is a separate event from leaf and grass collection and will occur the last Wednesday of each month April through November. In April and November, in addition to the last Wednesday of the month, a second brush collection will take place as marked in the Village calendar. Brush and tree limbs must be bundled in lengths not to exceed four (4) feet, or in an open container not to exceed fifty (50) pounds.

Recycling Collection

The schedule for recyclable curbside collection has changed to every other week. Recyclables must be set out separately at the curb no later than 7 a.m. on the scheduled days.

Fibre

All fibre must be bundled to a size no larger than 91cm x 91cm x 45cm. An acceptable method of bundling would involve packing a cardboard box (up to the above size) full with fibre.

The Village of Point Edward collects all fibre products such as newsprint, cardboard, telephone books, flyers, magazines, books (hard covers removed), boxboard (cereal boxes) and clean pizza boxes.

Only shredded paper can be placed in a transparent bag.

Containers

All containers (cans, glass or plastic bottles, milk, juice cartons, wide mouth containers such as ice cream, yogurt and margarine) must be placed in a blue box. Empty metal paint cans or empty plastic paint cans with little or no dried paint are acceptable.

Non-Recyclable Material

Non-recyclable material includes but is not limited to clam shell containers, bottles coded 3 to 7, Styrofoam, propane tanks, cans with propellant (hair spray) dishes, glassware, ceramics, window glass, mirrors, plastic bags, oil bottles (motor or cooking), paint cans that are a mix of metal and plastic.
