The Village of Point Edward Council regulates the collection, removal and disposal of waste in the Village. The following information addresses the various schedules and types of garbage that are accepted for disposal.
Regular Garbage Collection
June 1 to September 30 of each year
Double garbage collection takes place on Tuesday and Friday of each week. No leaf, grass or brush collection will take place on these days. The number of bags/containers will be restricted to six per collection day.
October 1 to May 31 of each year
During this time period, one garbage collection day takes place on Tuesday of each week. No leaf, grass or brush collection will take place on these days. The number of bags/containers will be restricted to six per collection day.
Other Important Information
- In the event garbage is not picked up, the bag will be tagged giving the reasons for non-collection;
- A weight restriction of 50 pounds and type of bag/container must be in accordance with the By-law to address health and safety issues for employees.
- All garbage must be at the curbside no later than 7 a.m.
Grass, Leaf and Brush Collection
April 1 to November 30 of each year
During this time period, grass, leaf and brush collection will take place on Mondays of each week. If the Monday falls on a statutory holiday, the collection will take place on Tuesday of that week. In each case, the grass, leaves and brush must be at the curbside no later than 7 a.m.
Brush and tree limbs must be bundled in lengths not to exceed four (4) feet and not to exceed fifty (50) pounds.
All leaves and grass shall be placed in clear, plastic bags to accommodate composting requirements.

Recycling Collection
The schedule for recyclable curbside collection has changed to every other week. Recyclables must be set out separately at the curb no later than 7 a.m. on the scheduled days.
Fibre material (newsprint, envelopes, etc.) can be placed in a blue box, tied in a bundle or be put in a plastic grocery bag or transparent bag. Cardboard must be broken down and tied in a bundle no larger than 30” x 30” x 6”.
All acceptable recyclable containers are to be placed in a separate blue box, i.e. plastic bottles coded 1 (pop bottles), coded 2 (bleach bottles rinsed), glass bottles rinsed, tin cans and pop cans.
The following items are
non-collectible and will be left uncollected at the curbside: Aluminum foil plates, containers coded 3 to 7, plastic trays, egg cartons, waxed cardboard, boxboard (cereal boxes).
Blue Box Purchases
Blue boxes can be purchased from the Village Municipal Office located at 135 Kendall Street for $10.00 per box.
