  • Planning

    The County of Lambton Planning Department provides advice, guidance and recommendations to Council, the Committee of Adjustment and staff members on all planning issues. They are also presently working with Council to prepare a new Official Plan and Zoning By-law. The administration for all planning applications is dealt with by municipal office staff.

    Responsibilities in the area of planning include the following:
    • Enforcement of The Planning Act and the Ontario Provincial Planning Policies;
    • Official Plan and Zoning By-law compliance and interpretation;
    • Maintaining the goals and values of the Official Plan.
    The objectives of the Official Plan are as follows:
    1. To provide a comprehensive document to guide and direct future development in a logical and orderly manner and attempt to correct the errors of past development so as to ensure a resulting healthy growth pattern which will benefit all the residents of the Planning area;
    2. To provide additional residential land for the anticipated growth in population; and
    3. To increase the amount of public open space, especially along the St. Clair River, to maximize the aesthetic and recreational potential offered by the unique location of the Village of Point Edward at the outlet of Lake Huron.
    General Planning Inquiries
    All general planning inquiries should be directed to the Municipal Office or the County of Lambton Planning and Development Services Department.

    Zoning Compliance letters – requests are to be made in writing together with a cheque payable to the County of Lambton in the amount of $70.00 and forwarded to: County of Lambton Planning and Development Services Department, 789 Broadway Street, Box 3000, Wyoming, ON N0N 1T0

    Dave Posliff is available on most Thursday afternoons in the Village office. Arrangements can be made to meet with him by appointment only.

    Committee of Adjustment
    The Point Edward Committee of Adjustment consists of three members: Heather Ashe, Dorothy Carr and Gavin Hall. They support an open and inclusive planning process as they consider decisions on severance and minor variance applications.

    The process for either of the applications takes approximately three months, which includes the circulation period prior to the hearing by the Committee and the appeal period following the decision made by the Committee.

    Zoning By-law and Official Plan Amendments
    The Village of Point Edward Council makes decisions on all applications for Zoning By-law or Official Plan amendments. Applications must be submitted to the Municipal Office.

    Site Plan Requirements
    Development other than single detached dwellings may require site plan approval. The Site Plan Committee reviews applications and makes recommendations to the Village of Point Edward Council. Site Plan policies and guidelines have been established by Council as set out below:
