There are a number of by-laws that require enforcement in the Village of Point Edward. Two by-laws are referred to the most often by residents of the Village. They are the Noise By-law and the Property Standards By-law.

Noise By-law

The Noise By-law is enforced to control noise. People have a right to and should be ensured of an environment free from unusual, unnecessary, or excessive sound or vibration which may degrade the quality and tranquility of their life or cause nuisance.

Common sense should prevail in these situations. All residents should be considerate of their neighbours. Unfortunately, this is not always the case and as a result, the Village Council has passed the Noise By-law, which is enforced by the Point Edward Ontario Provincial Police.

Property Standards By-law

The Property Standards By-law prescribes the standards for maintenance and occupancy of property within the Village of Point Edward. The Village Council has passed the by-law for the following reasons:

• For prescribing standards for the maintenance and occupancy of property within the municipality or within any defined area or areas and for prohibiting the occupancy and use of such property that does not conform to the standards;
• For requiring property that does not conform to the standard to be repaired and maintained to conform to the standards or for the site to be cleared of all buildings, structures, debris or refuse, and left in graded and leveled conditions.

If you have a concern with the standard of a property within the Village, it is a requirement that the following form be completed and submitted to the Municipal Office.

Property Standards Complaint Form

The complaint will be investigated and if action is warranted, the property owner will be required to conform to the standard or Orders will be issued to require that the work be completed. The name of the person(s) who have filed the complaint will not be released unless they agree to be a witness at the Property Standards Committee or court hearings, if they are required to close the file.

General Complaints

If a resident has a general complaint about any other matters that they would like to be investigated, the following form should be completed and submitted to the Municipal Office.
