By-Law to prevent dogs running at large.
All residents are required to control their dogs and to ensure that they do not leave their property unless they are on a leash. Owners of dogs found running at large can be charged in accordance with By-law No. 8 of 95, as amended.
Animal Control Services
Animal Control services are provided through the Animal Control Officer. He responds to calls regarding dogs running at large. Through the licensing system for all dogs in the Village, the Animal Control Officer may also be able to reunite pet owners with their pets.

Sarnia & District Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
Unclaimed dogs are transferred to the Sarnia & District Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. If they remain unclaimed following the legislated period of time, attempts are normally made to find homes for the dogs through adoption.

Dog Licensing
All dogs within the Village must be licensed in accordance with By-law No. 8 of 95, as amended being a by-law for the licensing and regulating of the registration of dogs and for imposing a license fee of the owners.
Dog licenses can be obtained and the fee paid at the Point Edward Municipal Office, 135 Kendall Street, Point Edward N7V 4G6 on Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Proof of rabies vaccination is mandatory prior to a license being issued.

NOTE: All of the above-noted fees increase after January 31, 2005.
The fees received help offset the cost of the Animal Control Officer and the Pound. The licenses provide the Owner with some comfort in the event that their dog strays from home. If the dog is identified through its dog tag, the owner will be contacted.
